Role — Design & Development Output — Web App

My first startup gig. One that dearly shaped my views on design. And how a group of spirited folks can create something together. Website builders are plenty these days and Fotomat still stands out with passionate takes on meaningful ways to display visual works online.

To lay fundaments we researched the history of the image. From the first photographs and moments of video to the present day technologies. We compiled 1000's of artist presentations and algorithmically distilled the impact of spacing and order. We found that showing imagery has a lot to do with rhythm, and created tools to playfully configure websites based on synthesizer interfaces. The resulting app is being used by 1000's of creators to build — and find — their best online presentation.

The interface was inspired by instruments. This example lays out options and highlights decisions, just like a drum-machine.
